Scoliosis is defined as an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. It is a condition that affects many people throughout the world, and one that does not currently have a cure. The good news is there are numerous ways to help manage the pain caused by this unfortunate condition. Chiropractic care is one of those ways, and many affected by scoliosis rely on their regular chiropractic visits.
The key to scoliosis is first understanding the patient. Not every instance of scoliosis can be treated the same way. At Choice Chiropractic, we ensure that we understand all of our patient’s pains, and from the initial consultation we either develop a treatment plan, or refer patients to a another trusted specialist if we feel chiropractic care is not in their’ best option.
We are experienced in treating and developing treatment plans for many our patients suffering from scoliosis, which means we will help manage your ongoing pain. An example treatment plan includes relaxing your muscles through a series of advanced chiropractic adjustments, massages, stretches and exercise routines. More importantly, this isn’t an overnight process or one that requires a lot of homework. Just coming into the office once a week for an adjustment isn’t enough to see any long-term benefits, which is why it is important to follow the treatment plan closely, and will likely include stretching and exercising at home.
Post Adjustment Treatments
Once your initial adjustment is over, there may be additional treatments to help manage your pain. Treatments such as an electrical stimulation through a TENS unit. Stim, the repetition of physical movements,,helps break up the swelling and will temporarily alleviate your pain.
In addition to stim, ultrasound may be another option to help reduce your pain. Ultrasound uses vibration to deliver heat and energy to different parts of your back.
Finally, we may suggest massage therapy as well. It’s important to talk with the massage therapist about your condition beforehand. For example, it can be tempting to get that 30-minute airport massage because your flight was delayed. However, if the massage therapist isn’t experienced with dealing with individuals suffering from scoliosis, it can do more harm than good.
