If  You Have Arthritis and Don’t Like It…Read This!

Did you ever think you would get arthritis because that’s just what people do when they get old? Here are the real causes:

  • Trauma to a joint from an injury or repetitive motions can cause a loss of movement.
  • The loss of movement causes the cartilage to break down.
  • When the trauma or fixation is present over a long period of time the body will lay calcium deposits (spurs).
  • The nerve endings in a joint that’s degenerating become highly sensitive.
  • Those changes cause the body to “pick up the slack” in other areas and cause stress on the adjacent joints, potentially causing arthritis there.

Some Surprising Data – By the time you see arthritic changes on x-rays the process has likely been underway for years. Cartilage cells start to die within two weeks of when the loss of movement occurs. You may not feel pain until years after this process starts.

How Do You Stop It? – Studies have shown that when a joint is deteriorating, if you restore movement in that joint, that the degeneration will slow down. The movement is thought to help get the cartilage cells hydrated.

What Does Chiropractic Do? – Chiropractic is the most commonly used form of alternative medicine used by arthritis patients. Here’s how chiropractic makes a difference:

  • The adjustment restores movement to the joint.
  • It decreases pain and allows you to be able to have more function in your day to day life.
  • When people are under chiropractic care they use less pain medicine and anti-inflammatories. This decreases stomach, liver, kidney, and heart side effects that happen with the use of anti-inflammatory medicines.

There is no pill that restores normal motion or function to the joint.

Dinner With Doc is Here Again!

It’s March, and for us here at Choice Chiropractic and Wellness Center, that means that it’s time again for our Dinner With Doc. So just what is Dinner With Doc?

Dinner With Doc happens just twice a year. On this evening we like to take a select few patients, and their friends or loved ones, out of our normal office setting for dinner. This dinner is an opportunity to meet some of the staff at Choice Chiropractic, learn more about what it is we do here in our office, and share stories about achieving success and better health through chiropractic care.

Do you have a friend or loved one who suffers from headaches, back pain, or carpal tunnel but doesn’t know what to do about it? This is the PERFECT opportunity for them to learn more about finding help for these conditions through drugless, non-surgical means. The best part? Dinner is on us! All we ask is that your guest not currently be a patient in our office and not have attended Dinner With Doc previously.

Please join us on:

Chiropractic Can Help Relieve Your Spring Allergies

With Spring comes allergy season once again. If you’re one of the millions of people who suffer from allergies you’re probably well aware of the conventional means of treatment. What you may not be aware of is the natural, holistic allergy treatment available through chiropractic. Knowing how chiropractic can help you reduce your allergy symptoms and improve your immune function, can help you breathe easier and feel better through all the seasons.

Allergy Causes

Allergies occur because of an exaggerated response from the immune system. All immune function depends on proper communication between the brain and the rest of the body. When this communication is inhibited the immune system can react strongly and negatively.

Subluxations occur when the spinal cord becomes pinched in the vertebrae of the spine. They disrupt communication in the central nervous system, resulting in problems like allergies and asthma.

Subluxations can also cause allergies by inhibiting the production and transportation of the natural antihistamine cortisol. Cortisol is produced by an adrenal gland fed by the T9 spinal level nerve root. A subluxation that pinches this nerve could result in underproduction of cortisol and heightened allergic response.

Chiropractic Can Help

The focus of many chiropractic techniques is the elimination of subluxations and the improved function of the nervous system. Chiropractors accomplish this goal in a variety of ways, including:

  • Spinal adjustments: Adjustments involve the elimination of subluxations through realignment of the spine. At Choice Chiropractic we use several different adjustment techniques. These include Diversified Technique, Thompson Technique, Logan Basic Technique, Activator Method, and Graston Technique.
  • Therapeutic stretches: One of the ways that chiropractors take care of their patients is by showing their patients how to perform stretches that help them strengthen their muscles and avoid spinal injury.
  • Lifestyle advice: Chiropractors administer lifestyle advice to help patients avoid recurrence of subluxations and improve nervous system function.
From the Doctors
The Hardest Part of Being a Chiropractor

Dr. Shannon-
“When I became a chiropractor I didn’t realize that I would have a “War on Drugs” every day of my life. The pharmaceutical industry spends over 10 billion dollars a year marketing their drugs to people. We are literally “brainwashed”….and our doctors are doing well. We are constantly bombarded by commercials and print ads. Our doctors’ continuing education is often sponsored by drug companies, so they learn about drugs. And even when people don’t want to take drugs a lot of the time they’re scared not to.

The funny thing to me is that, if you look at the statistics, there is a 1 in 1 million chance that someone will have an adverse reaction to a chiropractic adjustment. There are 400,000 admitted deaths every year in the U.S. and a lot of those are because of medicines. People will question the safety of an adjustment and not think twice about taking a drug.

So one of my commitments is to continue to patiently and tirelessly educate our community to make safer and healthier choices and take less drugs. Because I could save someone’s life.”

Dr. Ashley-
“The hardest part of being a chiropractor, in my opinion, is the “quick fix” mentality of our society. Most people only start paying attention to their health when they start losing it. When they have pain or something isn’t working right they look to the option that is going to make them “feel better” as quickly as possible. Usually that’s an NSAID, a muscle relaxer, or a pain pill. The issue with these is that once they wear off we’re back to square one. The symptoms come back. WHY? Because those pills did nothing to correct the REASON for the pain or dysfunction. They simply mask the symptoms, or put a “band-aid” on them.

Instead, our job is to educate each and every person about WHY they aren’t feeling well, or WHY their body isn’t working right. We look to the underlying structural issues that cause these problems and correct them for a lifetime of health. This involves no drugs or surgery, rather understanding from our patients about the teamwork involved in removing subluxations and strengthening their bodies so that they can function optimally long-term.
